Colorado Gives Day, on Tuesday, Dec. 6, is just five days away, and Solar Energy International is feeling the excitement. Colorado Gives Day is a 24-hour period of online giving where every donation made to SEI at www.givingfirst.org/solarenergy gets a boost from the First Bank Incentive Fund. This is part one in a five-part blog series leading up to Colorado Gives Day - each day we will highlight one of the 2012 SEI Outreach goals.

Help SEI create the Renewable Energy for High Schools online course!

Introduction to Renewable EnergyIn just one year since its launch, more than 5,000 people in 98 countries have enrolled in SEI's free RE100: Introduction to Renewable Energy online course. Building on the popularity of this course, SEI is now working to develop and launch a separate version specifically designed for high school students and their teachers.

Although the existing Intro to Renewable Energy course was not designed specifically as high school curriculum, teachers from Chile to Idaho are already using it in their high school classes. So SEI's Solar In the Schools outreach program is asking high school teachers and students how we can make a course that meets their unique needs.

The Renewable Energy for High Schools online course will be tailored to the interests of 14-18 year old students and, most importantly, the new course will be much easier for teachers to supervise while tracking student progress. SEI has already begun working with high school teachers to develop the course to best serve the needs of students and teachers. Their input is crucial to creating high quality curriculum that meets and exceeds state standards and incorporates sophisticated assessment.

While we are making these changes on the back end we will also give the kids what they want. High schoolers expect online courses to be chock full of interactive components. RE100 is already doing a good job of this, as participant reviews show, but we see opportunities to add more videos and more interactive exercises.

Your donation to SEI will help to make the new online Renewable Energy for High Schools course possible. If you donate here on Dec. 6, your donation will get a boost from FirstBank ... Your donation, only bigger!

Save the date, Dec. 6, on your calendars and visit www.givingfirst.org/solarenergy to make a donation to help support renewable energy education in our schools for a sustainable future.
