Solar Energy International (SEI) is pleased to partner with the Saudi Arabia Solar Industry Association (SASIA) to provide professional solar PV training to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and surrounding region.  This training partnership will leverage SEI's decades of technical training experience and expertise.   The goal of this partnership is to establish a highly trained solar professional workforce with a focus on safety and highly efficient PV system design and installation methods throughout the region.

This hybrid training model between SEI and SASIA consists of online learning via SEI’s state-of-the-art online learning platform and an in-person training taught by some of SEI’s most experienced instructors. We’ve customized this training for engineers, designers, decision makers, and those who play a vital part in the Middle East’s quickly emerging solar markets.

SEI / SASIA Training Schedule and Registration:

Introduction to Solar Electric Generation - Online
Training Description: This online solar training course establishes fundamental concepts required for quality design and installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems. The goal of the course is to create an understanding of the core concepts necessary to work with all PV systems, including megawatt size systems. The design and installation processes are similar regardless of the size and scale of the system. A strong understanding of basic system functionality is crucial for expanding into larger system concepts. Topics covered include PV cmponents, modules, series and parallel array configurations, grid-tied inverters, solar site analysis and mounting—all necessary for the emerging PV market in Saudi Arabia. This course is a prerequisite to the in-person technical training on September 9, 2013, in conjunction with the SASIA Joint Forces for Solar conference in Riyadh. Participants should plan on approximately 3 weeks or a total of 20 hours to complete this course.

Audience:
This introductory training is geared toward Engineers, Government and Utility Decision Makers, PV System Integrators, Designers, Installation Specialists, Business Owners, and Financiers.

Technical Considerations for Commercial and Utility-Sized PV Systems

Training Description: This one day in-person training will expand upon the quality design and installation concepts covered in the online course. We will expand into PV modules and Testing, Installation Quality, Safety and Commissioning, Operations and Maintenance—all with the goal of understanding system performance and how it impacts the return on investment. There will be demonstration equipment utilized during the training, as well as adequate time for Q&A. This course requires the Introduction to Solar Energy online course as a prerequisite to this inperson technical training on September 9, 2013, in conjunction with the SASIA Joint Forces for Solar conference in Riyadh.

Audience:
This introductory training is geared toward Engineers, Government and Utility Decision Makers, PV System Integrators, Designers, Installation Specialists, Business Owners, and Financiers

About the SEI / SASIA Partnership
Kathryn Swartz, SEI’s Executive Director, stated, “This is just the beginning of a long-term partnership to develop a training and certification program to ensure that solar electric systems are designed and installed to maximize system performance, safety, and return on investment.”

Abundant solar potential gives the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) a unique opportunity to become one of the most energy-advantaged countries in the world. The Saudi Arabia Solar Industry Association (SASIA) is a non-profit, non-governmental association that strives to make this vision a reality by helping Saudi Arabia and the Middle East realize the full economic and environmental potential of solar energy.

SASIA's goal is to bring the national and regional solar industry together, transforming the vast solar potential of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East into a commercially- and environmentally-viable solution for our growing demand for electricity.

"The Saudi Arabia Solar Industry Association (SASIA) is pleased to team with Solar Energy International (SEI) to develop solar training and education programs for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the GCC/MENA region.  SASIA will build upon SEI's decades of experience and technical knowledge to maximize the quality of PV applications in the Middle East. " - Browning Rockwell – Executive Director SASIA

SASIA's organization aims to:

  • Create new business opportunities for its members through face-to-face meetings, workshops and lectures.
  • Expand the use of all solar technologies at both the national and regional level, helping to keep pace with the Kingdom’s rapidly growing demand for electricity.
  • Create employment opportunities in the solar industry throughout Saudi Arabia and across the Middle East, developing sustainable expertise within the KSA and reducing the need for foreign labour.
  • Offer assistance to international solar companies who are contemplating investment in Saudi Arabia and the MENA region.
  • Assist policy makers on matters related to solar policies, standards, and product certifications by making accurate, world-class information on the regional solar industry available in the form of white papers and research reports.
  • Provide a single voice for the industry-a voice of Saudis for the benefit of Saudis.

Members of the Saudi Arabia Solar Industry Association are drawn from all sectors of the solar industry, including photovoltaics (PV), concentrated photovoltaics (CPV), concentrated solar power (CSP), and solar thermal. Membership is also open to suppliers to the solar industry such as glass, steel, and engineering companies.

SASIA provides its members with services such as educational workshops, networking functions, and special reports on breakthrough solar innovations. We also provide assistance to international companies seeking to expand solar operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. The association is currently working on initiatives that bring together leaders from the policy sector, academia, and the private sector.

About Solar Energy International
SEI’s PV training program was one of the first programs in the United States to be certified by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), which is the premier resource for credentialing and best practices regarding renewable energy. In addition, SEI's textbooks, Photovoltaic Design and Installation Manual (over 70,000 copies have been sold) and its newly published Solar Electric Handbook: Photovoltaic Fundamentals and Applications are used in hundreds of colleges and training programs around the world.

SEI is one of the oldest and largest renewable energy organizations in the United States and has trained over 30,000 people in the design and installation of solar electric systems all over the world. Founded in 1991, as a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization focused solely on renewable energy, SEI’s mission is to provide quality training to advance the renewable energy industry and has worked extensively around the world.
