SEI's Solar In the Schools Outreach Program Teams up with Colorado Parks and Wildlife Teaching Environments Naturally Program

K-12 Classrooms visit SEI's PV lab Facility in Paonia, Colorado

SEI's Solar In the Schools has teamed up with Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Teaching Environmental Science Naturally (TEN) program to integrate renewable energy science and PV labs in an outdoor classroom setting for K-12 students in Delta County. The TEN program assists teachers in taking their students outdoors for academically powerful field trips and to connect students to their local natural and cultural resources.

The TEN program leadership and local teachers were enthusiastic to partner with Solar In the Schools and selected SEI's PV lab facility in Paonia, Colorado as one of their primary field trip sites. On June 3rd SIS provided a teacher's training to 24 educators from Delta and Montrose County schools to showcase a sampling of hands- on labs and renewable energy technology lessons at our lab facility.

At the end of the training teachers were asking to schedule field trips this coming fall. TEN is helping SIS with funding for equipment and dollar-for-dollar transportation matching funds to participating teachers and classes.   This partnership will make it possible for teachers and their students to take advantage of our one-of-a-kind facility to enhance students understanding of the growing importance of renewable energy technologies and to increase awareness about solar energy as an option to meet our energy needs.
