SEI's New Solar Training Textbook / eBook Bundle Released for Aug. 6th PV101 Online Course

Solar Energy International (SEI) has announced the release of their new textbook, Solar Electric Handbook: Photovoltaic Fundamentals and Applications in conjunction with their August 6th online session, PVOL101 Solar Electric Design and Installation (Grid-Direct). The general public will be able to purchase the new textbook through the SEI online bookstore as well.

This much anticipated textbook continues the long history of Solar Energy International's leadership role in curriculum and textbook development for the solar industry and electricians. For over 20 years SEI has been the leader in the solar industry for technical training and curriculum development.

SEI's Executive Director, Kathy Schwartz, points out, "SEI is one of the only solar training providers that can say "we wrote the book" on the technical topics for which we train. We offer all of our lecture based classroom courses either in-person or online so students have the opportunity to be taught by instructors who were the actual contributors and authors of the textbook and curriculum that is being used in their course.

After their classroom solar training, many students go on to take hands-on labs at our Paonia, Colorado photovoltaic lab facility. Students may also apply for acceptance into SEI's Solar Professionals Certificate Program where they get to work and learn side by side with the leading technical minds in the solar industry. This is a unique learning opportunity most other training providers can't offer."

SEI's new Solar Electric Handbook shifts the concept of a traditional printed book into the 21st century with a hybrid eBook and print book offering. Through SEI's publishing partnership with Pearson, this new textbook offers a companion eBook with the purchase of every print version. The eBook is accessed through Pearson's eText solution and can be used on a PC, Mac, or through an App available for both iPad and Droid tablets.

SEI's Director of Online and Student Services, Chris Turek, says, "This new textbook / eBook bundle is going to take SEI's solar photovoltaic training to the next level. The 21st century technical professional has gotten a lot more digital with the online resources and mobile technologies currently available. This is why we chose to offer an eBook as a companion resource with the printed copy of our new textbook.

Being technically proficient and information literate through the use of web based tools and calculators, online manufacturer spec sheets and dealer information, and knowing how to locate up-to-date incentives and rebates online are all necessary skills for the solar professional. Many of these resources are going mobile on tablet devices. Offering our new textbook in a format that is accessible on a job site from their laptop or tablet is going to be a great resource and reference for technical professionals working in the field."

SEI's upcoming August 6th online session, PVOL101: Solar Electric Design and Installation, will be the first training opportunity to use the new textbook. The new book will be the required text for students participating in the upcoming August 6th online course PV101: Solar Electric Design and Installation. Every registered student will receive a copy of the new Textbook and eBook bundle as part of their tuition.

Hundreds of solar training programs have been created in recent years at trade schools and community colleges all across the U.S. SEI's textbooks and curriculum have been adopted by many of these training providers. Starting in August, other schools and training providers will be able to bulk order books for their students from SEI at a discounted rate. A pre-order campaign has been offered in recent months where schools wishing to adopt this new textbook were able to pre-order at a discounted price. That pre-order opportunity will end at the end of July.

This is the first book in a broader technical textbook series. Additional titles will be released in the coming year and beyond, covering other advanced technical applications and battery-based PV system topics.
