Solar Energy International Makes the Move to Eco-friendly Third Street Center
March 19, 2012
By April E. Clark, Solar Energy International Marketing Communications Coordinator
Solar Energy International in Carbondale, Colorado has a new, green place to call home.
The nonprofit solar trainer and renewable energy educator has moved from its Second Street location to new offices in Carbondale, Colorado's Third Street Center, an eco-friendly facility renovated from the former Carbondale Elementary School building. The Third Street Center is home to more than 30 nonprofit organizations and artist studios with sustainability in mind.
SEI's renovated space, previously two classrooms in the prior elementary school just off the facility's Round Room, features:
- Locally harvested beetle kill wood used through out the space.
- InterfaceFLOR carpet tiles made of pre- and post-consumer recycled content. This company has ambitious goals that SEI supports, including a Mission Zero promise to completely eliminate any negative impact on the environment by 2020.
- Paperstone countertops: PaperStone® is made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper that has been saturated with proprietary PetroFree phenolic resins and selected natural pigments.
- Skylights and southfacing windows that provide natural light. Compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and light emitting diodes (LEDs) also light the open, airy space. Each office is equipped with occupancy sensors and daylight sensors that shut the main office space lighting off when there is ample daylight.
- Monocrystalline solar panels for privacy and decorative accents to the open space.
Solar Energy International welcomes visitors Mon-Fri, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to learn more about the new office renovation and renewable energy education. Please call (970) 963-8855 with questions, or visit http://www.solarenergy.org for more information.
