Solar Energy International Offers Solar Training to Meet NABCEP Changes

NABCEPCarbondale, Colorado USA - This spring, Solar Energy International (SEI) is meeting the needs of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP)'s revised eligibility criteria for the PV Installer Certification with several online courses and in-person workshop trainings in solar power technology, the fastest growing sector in America.

According to NABCEP, the major changes in the eligibility requirements concern the amount of training required and the number of installations that applicants must document. All candidates will now have to document 58 hours of PV-specific training, which SEI offers in its curriculum. The minimum number of installations has increased from two to three for all tracks except Track A where five installations will be required. The full eligibility criteria can be found on NABCEP's website here. The September NABCEP exam deadline is July 13.

In order to provide additional hours to the previously required 40 hours of training to sit for the PV Installer Certification exam, SEI will begin its online PVOL202: Advanced PV System Design and the NEC (Grid-Direct) course May 21-July 1. With this online solar training course for professionals, students apply the National Electrical Code (NEC) to residential and commercial grid-direct solar electric systems to ensure safe, code-compliant design and installation. This course builds upon the core concepts from PV101 and continues to emphasize grid-direct systems. PV202 provides the opportunity to fulfill NABCEP educational hours now, as opposed to the middle of the busy summer season.

Solar Training ©Solar Energy International "Solar Energy International is proud to have been a pioneer in encouraging the formation of NABCEP and in promoting the value of independent training with third-party testing and certification," said Johnny Weiss, SEI's Advising Co-founder. "As solar education continues to become mainstream, SEI remains committed to preparing its trainees for both industry professional certifications, and with the practical skills for sustainable solar careers."

In response to demand, SEI has launched a new Solar Professionals Certificate Program to provide quality training to ensure a thriving professional workforce in support of the renewable energy sector. The intent of the program is to go beyond a "certification test prep" format of training and take participants to a higher level of educational experience to truly prepare them for the solar industry and a career with more than 120 hours of industry training in each study path.

"Establishment of the SEI Solar Professionals Certificate Program has helped formalize proof of a rigorous training program completion and made it easier to distinguish training certificate holders from other employment applicants," said Blake Jones, CEO of Namaste Solar and SEI alumnus. "SEI is, of course, very well respected by Namaste Solar and the rest of the solar industry. This is taken into account when reviewing employment applicants' resumes and where they received their training."
