Solar Energy International (SEI) Collaborates with Roof Integrated Solar Energy™ (RISE)

Learn why the roof is just as important as the PV system
So, what is RISE,™ ? Roof Integrated Solar Energy™ (RISE) Inc. is a nonprofit organization that evaluates and certifies solar energy installers for knowledge regarding critical roof system construction and maintenance practices necessary to support successful rooftop solar energy installations by administering the Certified Solar Roofing Professional (CSRP) credential. RISE is directed by a board of professional practitioners representing the solar and roofing industries.

What is a CSRP™? The Certified Solar Roofing Professional (CSRP) credential is designed to be a tool to identify skilled professionals who are capable of addressing all aspects of a roof-mounted PV system installation. CSRPs are tested and certified on knowledge about industry best practices for integrating roof systems and PV systems.

Why is it important that RISE and SEI work together? Well, rooftops are PV systems’ natural home yet the roof still needs to do its primary job: keeping the building protected from the elements and waterproof. Installing an expensive PV system incorrectly or over an aged or faulty roof system will lead to unintended results.  The CSRP certification helps ensure that both the roof system and the PV system are handled by knowledgeable professionals. That makes any building owner a happy customer.

If you are an electrician or a PV system engineer whose expertise is not in the roofing field, RISE can help you find education and training to learn more about roof systems.. Don’t worry…the CSRP credential evaluates whether candidates have the underlying knowledge required for a successful roof-mounted PV system installation—one that recognizes the importance of both the roof system and the PV system for a building's value and uninterrupted use. The credential does not attempt to convert roofing professionals into electricians or PV system designers or vice versa.
