January 6, 2011
On Feb. 11, Solar Energy International PV instructor Kris Sutton leads a one-day Photovoltaic System Installation Workshop - Intensive as part of CoSEIA's Annual Solar Conference, Colorado Solar Power taking place Feb. 9-11, 2011, in Loveland, Colo.
This session will focus on 2008 and 2011 National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, best practices, and safe working procedures for installing and troubleshooting PV systems. Grid interface considerations, disconnects, system labeling requirements, and series fusing will be covered.
Students will analyze and troubleshoot ground-fault and commissioning scenarios. Class lectures are combined with individual problem solving exercises covering a wide range of installation considerations. Instructors will also spend time discussing NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam requirements and tips for exam preparation.
Kris Sutton has many years of experience working with grid-tied, battery UPS systems, and off-grid renewable energy systems. He also has experience with single- and three-phase, high- and low-voltage inverters, industrial batteries, and all types of photovoltaic systems. He has been employed as a project manager and directed work crews of two to 12 working on multiple projects. He works with architects, engineers, general contractors, building departments, and homeowners through all phases of the PV design and installation process. Kris is a NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installer and ISPQ Certified Trainer who has instructed technical trainings for groups of up to 80 students on photovoltaic systems, commercial and residential electrical systems, renewable energy overview, and OSHA safety.
