Carbondale is located in Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley, three hours east of Denver. Bring your family and plan to spend some extra time in the area. Download our Carbondale Recreation info packet (PDF) for information on all the fun things to do in the Roaring Fork Valley.
There are many recreational activities in the Carbondale area, and throughout the Valley. Hiking trails, biking trails, fly-fishing, climbing, rafting and kayaking are only some of the outdoor sports that can be enjoyed. Bicycle rentals are available for more adventurous mountain biking. For info on bike rentals call Ajax Sports - (970) 963-0128, or Aloha Mountain Cyclery - (970) 963-2500. Again, please remember: If you are coming from sea-level please be aware of the higher elevation. Do not attempt any strenuous exercise until you are acclimated, and remember to drink plenty of water.
The town of Aspen is just 30 miles east of Carbondale, where you can find entertainment, shopping and gourmet dining. Redstone, a historic art community, is 18 miles south of Carbondale. And the famous Glenwood Springs Hot Springs Pool and Vapor Caves are only 12 miles away.
Carbondale's Third Street Center promotes community through a multi-tenant, mixed-use facility that models sustainability in its design and practice. By providing long-term, affordable rental space, the Center brings together non-profit organizations, artists and small businesses under one roof, leveraging their unique strengths and acting as a catalyst for environmental awareness, artistic expression, social service, health and wellness, and inventive enterprise.
