DOE Issues $30 billion in Lending Authority
BWB eco-house
U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced today that the Department of Energy will provide up to $30 billion in loan guarantees, depending on the applications and market conditions, for renewable energy projects.

“These investments will be used to create jobs, spur the development of innovative clean energy technologies, and help ensure a smart, strong and secure grid that will deliver renewable power more effectively and reliably,” said Secretary Chu. “This administration has set a goal of doubling renewable electricity generation over the next three years. To achieve that goal, we need to accelerate renewable project development by ensuring access to capital for advanced technology projects.”

SEI Installs Additional PV Lab

View of SEI Eco-Campus Lab Training Facility
SEI is pleased to announce the addition of a new PV lab system to our world class training facility.  As part of SEI’s commitment to deliver code compliant, safety oriented, cutting edge curriculum and lab opportunities to participants, we have recently installed a new roof mounted, grid-direct PV system at our Paonia lab facility.

Incorporating several new products, this exciting installation has been made possible through generous equipment donations from industry supporters.  The system was designed to provide our students with hands-on experience installing a micro-inverter based PV system and familiarity with module-by-module data monitoring, which are relatively new applications in the industry.  A new racking solution, with improved wire management, and flashed stand-offs were also incorporated into the new lab system.

SEI would like to thank the following organizations for their generous equipment donations to this project:  AEE Solar, Enphase Energy and SolarWorld.
Become a FUEL Ambassador
SEI workshop
SEI associate Joshua Tickell just screened his new film "FUEL" to the Department of Energy. Soon FUEL will be in theaters around the country.

FUEL, which won the audience award at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, reveals our addiction to oil, from its historical origins to political constructs that support it, to alternatives available now and the steps we can take to change things.

As a FUEL Ambassador, you'll organize concerned people in your community to see the movie and take action toward its solutions.

Sign up at to become a FUEL Ambassador, and keep an eye out for the opening of FUEL; coming soon to a theater near you...with your help.

And speaking of fuel, if you are interested in biodiesel, check out the SEI co-sponsored workshop in Pittsboro, NC with Piedmont Biofuels and the Abundance Foundation. See below in upcoming events, or click here for more information.
