Frustrated that our PV workshops are full? Don't fear, we have more PV workshops scheduled for the fall. Keep checking the SEI website to see when new dates become available. In the meantime, check out our Sustainable Building workshops, both hands-on and online, which should be your first step towards becoming a renewable energy expert. And if you're interested in bringing these technologies to developing countries see our Renewable Energy for the Developing World workshop.

| SEI's 2nd Annual PV Instructor Training a Success |
This March SEI held their 2nd Annual PV Instructor Training. This training is part of SEI’s commitment to ‘train the trainers’ interested in being part of the PV education workforce. Held in Paonia, CO at SEI’s trend setting PV training center, the instructor training included three days of reviewing and strengthening course curriculum, and exploring new instructional methods.
Twenty-four of SEI's thirty PV instructors attended from around the country including three new PV Spanish speaking instructors who came from Mexico. SEI will soon be debuting a series of Spanish classes with their recently translated Spanish PV Textbook and curriculum. For those interested in contracting SEI to teach a Spanish PV course, please contact Laurie Stone.
SEI instructor and employee Kris Sutton said “the instructor training was a huge success, not only is it great to bring everyone together from around the country to learn from each other’s experiences but it is also brings to SEI’s curriculum development over 30 years of PV installation and training experience." |

Bob Freling of SELF Awarded King Hussein Leadership Prize |
SEI alum and long-time associate Robert Freling was recently awarded the King Hussein Leadership prize by Queen Noor, for his work as Executive Director of the Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF). SELF's projects provide power for water pumping, health clinics, schools, homes, streetlights, microenterprise, and wireless Internet for communities in the developing world. Bob, along with Neville Williams, the founder of SELF, were speakers at the Aspen Institute's Environment and Energy Forum where the award was presented.
Established in 1999, the King Hussein Leadership Prize is an international award given to individuals, groups or institutions that reflect the late King Hussein's inspiring and courageous leadership in their efforts to promote sustainable development, human rights, tolerance, equity, and peace.
“Mr Freling is a visionary leader working at the intersection of environmental stewardship and sustainable human development,” Queen Noor said while presenting the award, noting that “SELF helps whole villages leapfrog from no reliable energy to affordable, green power that in turn provides access to other basic rights - clean water, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.” |

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) continues to announce more places where stimulus money is to be spent as more funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is allocated.
The DOE Web site has links for funding opportunities offered through the stimulus. Applications for renewable energy projects, advanced fossil energy projects, Smart Grid projects and others will be considered.
The Obama administration also announced US $3.2 billion in funding for local energy efficiency programs in U.S. cities, counties, states, territories and for Native American tribes. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program has the goal of reducing demand for electricity, increasing efficiency and reducing fossil fuel emissions.
