SEI Alumni Spotlight: Derek Mast – Commitment to Continuing Education
Derek Mast, a foreman for a large, multi-state solar company. Derek has been in the solar industry for a year and a half and before joining the solar industry, Derek was an electrician for six years. He is one of several dozen employees his company has sent to SEI for training. They put all new hires through SEI’s introductory class and some employees, through more advanced solar training. Derek joined SEI for PV 351L, a hands-on lab class covering tools and techniques for operation and maintenance of PV systems. The course is advanced training designed for solar professionals like Derek, who are already working in the PV industry who want to take their technical skills to the next level and gain hands-on experience with a wide range of advanced analytical tools and meters.
SEI Alum, Laura Conchelos, recently came back to Solar Energy International (SEI), this time as an instructor. Prior to Laura coming back to SEI to teach, she spent seven years doing seasonal construction work where gained some experience with solar electric systems while working on off-grid cabins in New Hampshire. Her experience is like the many others who come from a construction background, bringing the many transferable skills when they make their career transition or expansion into the solar industry.
Due to the high volume of students seeking training from SEI this year, we have added more sessions to meet this demand. If you plan on attending any of SEI’s solar training events this summer / fall – ENROLL NOW! Class seats are going fast for our highly attended hands-on labs, classroom courses, and online courses.
Click on the graphic above for a quick video preview of the highly technical topics in this course that covers advanced PV stand-alone battery-based systems. Off-grid was where PV got its start – with so many applications for stand-alone power, and continual new developments and cost reductions in energy storage technology, this sector of the market is growing like never before. Detailed analysis of load considerations, charge controller sizing, and specifying stand-alone inverters is followed by numerous design examples that address the wide ranging specifics of different off-grid applications. Also covered is generator sizing and integration, maintenance for stand-alone systems, water pumping, and a healthy dose of best practices that have been learned over the years. Advance your PV knowledge well beyond where the grid goes with PV304!

Solar Energy International (SEI) is pleased to offer comprehensive Veterans Educational Funding and outreach programs for veterans and active duty military personnel. We proudly offer educational opportunities and benefits to military members, their families, and veterans who have honorably served.
SEI is now authorized to offer eligible veterans the ability to use their education benefits towards our in-person classroom and hands-on lab training through SEI’s Solar Professionals Certificate Program (SPCP).
This education funding approval is part of SEI’s broader expansion of their Active Duty Military and Veterans Outreach Program. As an organization, SEI believes in the opportunities that renewable energy can offer our country, such as energy independence and sustainable use of our country’s natural resources. With that in mind, we also honor those who have served our country and who are choosing to follow up their military service with a new kind of service; service in the renewable energy sector.
Congratulations to SEI’s Summer 2016 Solar Professionals Certificate Program Graduates!
Congratulations to the following students who have completed our most rigorous training program!
The SEI Solar Professionals Certificate Program is a selective admissions program to help ensure the success of our students and provide a quality workforce for the solar industry. To determine a candidate’s likelihood of program completion, alignment of career goals, and overall good fit for this professional training program, we require a certificate program application to be completed by every student candidate. This is required for any certificate path and acceptance into the overall program. Multiple Certificates can be earned by adding courses to your original Certificate Path.
