SEI Spring Workshops - Register Now!

SEI has PV Design & Installation workshops coming up this spring all over the country. Learn how to design and install a solar electric system in San Francisco, Austin, Salt Lake City, Tucson, or upstate New York. See our website for details. Click here

We'd like to thank our cosponsors: The Solar Store, Tucson Electric Power, and Out on Bale (Tucson); NorCal Solar, Grid Alternatives, and Pacific Energy Center (San Francisco); Sun Mountain and Sunnyside Solar (Olivebridge, NY); Meridian Energy Systems and Texas Solar Energy Society (Austin), Utah Energy Office and Green Building Center (Salt Lake City).

And don't miss out on a unique opportunity to learn about renewables by studying and installing systems in Costa Rica! Renewable Energy for the Developing World - Hands-On.

Studying Wind in Colorado

Wind power has always been said to be negligible on the Western Slope in Colorado. However, thanks to the Office of Energy Management and Conservation's (OEMC) Anemometer Loan Program data is being collected that may prove that wind power can be a viable portion of the RE portfolio for the western half of the state. The anenometers, which measure wind speed, are loaned out and rotated on an annual basis throughout the State to qualified applicants. For more information on this program click here.

As part of the interest in wind energy in Colorado, SEI is teaming up with the Delta Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) in Colorado to present a seminar on wind power. Topics will include current technology, costs, payback, interconnection issues, and net metering. This seminar is part of a renewable energy seminar series sponsored by the DMEA, which will take place February 25 in Montrose, Colorado. For more information visit DMEA's website.

Micro-Hydro and Solar Training in Peru

SEI's Associate Green Empowerment is offering training on the Practical Implementation of Pico and Micro Hydro Power and Solar Photovoltaic Systems for Rural Communities in Northern Peru. This two week workshop covers the technical and project implementation skills necessary for micro hydro and solar projects in the developing world.

May 30-June 10, 2005 in Cajamarca, Northern Peru Tuition: $2,000 Participants also need to pay for transportation to the training center in Cajamarca, Peru, and room and board. For more information visit Green Empowerment's website.

Tsunami Solar Light Fund Launched

As the immediate Tsunami emergency relief efforts begin to fade for the ravaged coastal villages along the Indian Ocean, new sources of funding for the reconstruction of homes and communities are urgently needed. To help meet these challenges and to provide a critical solar energy infrastructure component, RenewableEnergyAccess.com has teamed with the Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) and SELCO India to initiate the Tsunami Solar Light Fund. The fund will provide solar home systems for 1,500 homes plus 25 community street lights for the Tsunami shattered coastal area of southeastern India in the Tamil Nadu region. Task Force Calls on G-8 to Combat Global Warming

An international task force of business leaders, scientists, and politicians has released a report predicting dire environmental consequences if the leading industrial nations of the world don't work quickly to combat global warming.

According to E Magazine, the report stresses that G-8 countries must significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, double their spending on green technology R&D, and work with developing countries to strengthen the terms of the Kyoto Protocol in order to avert a global catastrophe of unprecedented proportions.
