SEI Newsletter Issue 41 - May 2006

Developing World Issues

More than two billion people in the world lack access to electricity. Join SEI in our Renewable Energy for the Developing World workshop to learn how to implement sustainable renewable energy projects in rural areas of developing countries. June 19 - 23, Carbondale, CO

One billion people in the world lack adequate housing. SEI's Sustainable Building for the Developing World workshop covers current technologies being used to address people's housing, water, and sanitation needs in appropriate, ecological, and sustainable ways. June 26 - 30, Carbondale, CO.

More then one billion people in the world lack access to clean water. If you'd like to learn sustainable solutions to the earth's water problems, join SEI's affiliate, The International Renewable Resources Institute (IRRI) for their Water Management & Technology workshop in Mexico City, August 28 - September 1.

Extending Solar Tax Credits

the U.S. House and Senate have introduced identical bills to extend the 30% federal solar tax credits created in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 for an additional eight years - through 2015. The proposed extension, combined with changes to capping the residential credit based on system power, instead of cost, will give the solar and fuel cell industries the time it takes to make the major investments needed to move into the mainstream. To ask your Senators and Representatives to cosponsor this legislation click here. You can personalize the letter by adding a paragraph near the beginning of the letter.
