School Installations

One of our favorite projects is working with schools to install renewable energy systems on campus. SEI works with teachers and administration to raise funds and organize hands-on installation so students can be directly involved. We also make sure students are introduced to renewable energy by giving grade appropriate presentations in conjunction with the installation, and we train teachers to continue teaching about renewable energy long after SEI has left the classroom.

One of the best aspects of these projects, however, is the Solar Fair.  This is normally a day-long event introducing the surrounding community to renewable energy and resource efficiency while showcasing the newly installed system. Students create educational booths – everything from explaining renewable energy technologies using hands-on displays to solar cooking demonstrations, tips on energy conservation, local food production and informational resources for the community public.  Some groups have even started selling energy efficient, compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs in place of bake sales! Additionally, the community gets to see a working RE system in action – one that children from the school helped to install.
