Solar In the Schools (SIS)

SEI's Solar In the Schools (SIS) program offers a model renewable energy education curriculum that is tailored for grades K-12.  This program includes class discussions, interactive and hands-on activities on renewable energy, and scientific experimentation that fosters critical thinking.

Since its inception in 2002, thousands of students and teachers have participated in the SIS program through SEI’s many regional Classroom Presentations and Renewable Energy Science Kits that we lend out to regional teachers. We also work with school administrations to educate their student body in conjunction with the installation of an actual renewable energy system.

In 2007, SEI created its first accredited teacher training workshop, entitled Renewable Energy for Educators.  This annual 4-day workshop allows us to effectively increase our national outreach by bringing in participating youth educators from around the country to learn in the inspiring setting of SEI's Colorado headquarters.

SIS has inspired many young people with our various displays and presentations, but the most loved demonstration is always SEI’s Solar School Bus – a vegetable oil and biodiesel-powered school bus outfitted with a 400 watt solar electric system and information about making a difference by creating a sustainable future.

Solar In the Schools would not be possible without the support of our members, financial donors, and partnering organizations.  We couldn’t have done this without you!
