Totogalpa, Nicaragua

The workshop is cosponsored by Grupo Fenix, a non-profit organization that supports renewable energy and sustainable development in Nicaragua.

The workshop will take place in a rural community in Totogalpa, Nicaragua called Sabana Grande. Participants will stay with local families, install a solar PV lighting system, build their own solar battery chargers, and help a woman's cooperative build and use solar ovens.

The workshop price includes food, lodging, and all in-country transportation.

Travel Information
If traveling by air, please plan to arrive at the Managua Airport on Friday, August 26th, and plan to fly out Monday, September 5th. We will have certain pick-up times at the Managua airport, so we will be asking for your flight information after you register.

If traveling by land or will be arriving early, we can arrange to meet you at Suni Solar (a Grupo Fenix solar enterprise) on Friday evening. Suni Solar is located at: Barrio Edgard Mungia, de los semaforos de ENEL Central, 80 metros al sur.

Participants will be staying with local families in the countryside. Be prepared for rustic living. The homes have dirt floors and outside "showers" (the family will bring the water from the nearest well available and have it ready in a 5 gallon bucket). Some of the participants will have to walk 1 or 2 kilometers from their homes to the workshop site. You will be eating the traditional gallopinto (rice and beans) with tortillas every morning and night. Please let us know of any health or diet considerations that will help us place you with an appropriate family.
