Work-Trade

Q. Does SEI offer housing?

A. No - unfortunately neither of SEI's campuses offer housing at this time.  All work-traders are required to find (and pay for) their own housing arrangements.  If you are accepted into the program, we will send you a list of community members who offer to rent out rooms or apartments - usually at a discounted rate for SEI members.  There is also camping possibilities, but remember, this is mountain country and nights (and days) can be cold in the spring and into the summer.

Q.  Why does SEI need its work-traders to pay a $300 deposit on all of the workshops even though the amount will be refunded in entirety at the end of the 8 weeks of workshops?

A.   Two reasons:  1.  SEI has a long history of offering 100% scholarships and trades with people.  We have found that if folks don't have any money invested, their participation in the workshop slacks and they sometimes don't show up to class.  We've experienced this more than you might think.  2. If a WTer chooses to cancel a workshop, then the cancellation policy of a $100 administration fee applies.  When someone cancels last minute, then SEI has to scramble to fill that spot.  The cancellation fee is not as much for monetary reasons as it is for the simple fact that these workshops offer vital information and every seat should be full.  We are commiting to you, and we ask that you do the same for us!

Q.  Do all work-traders work 8 concurrent weeks and take 8 concurrent weeks of workshops?

A.  No, if you are accepted into the work-trade program, we will work with you to find a schedule that fits all of our lives.  If you have a wedding to go to, for example, just tell us while we are scheduling and we will do our best to make everyone happy.  Regarding our workshops, many work-traders try to take as many back-to-back workshops as they can, but every once in awhile there is a workshop that doesn't fit into that timeframe.  This is especially true if a work-trader would like to take an international workshop.

Q.  Why is your program called a "Work-Trade" and not an "Internship"?

A.  The title of Work-Trade better represents what we offer in that we try to match your existing skills to our need and in exchange we trade the cost of tuition for our workshops for your efforts.  The term "Internship" implies that there will be on the job training.  Even though all of our WTers learn heaps from taking 8 weeks of workshops and from working with us, we need experienced people to help us get the tasks at hand done - hence the term, Work-Trade.

Q.  Can I bring my dog?

A.  Yes, but not to the office.  We are very dog friendly here, but the problem is that we have a limited amount of space, and we are pretty maxed on the number of staff dogs in the office already.  Please find other arrangements for your pets!!
