Workshop and Training Program Policies
Enrollment is on a first-come basis and class sizes are limited. To reserve a space you can register online or call in to register at 970-963-8855 and make payment in full. If you are sending a check, call first to check on availability and to let us know that you are sending payment.
Lodging & Logistics SEI has campuses in Carbondale and Paonia, Colorado. Carbondale is a small town in the heart of the Rockies, thirty miles west of Aspen. Denver is a three and a half hour drive east through the mountains. Paonia is a community one hour southwest of Carbondale. Workshops are held at both facilities. Many of our workshops are held in other parts of the country and the world. Local logistics and lodging for each workshop venue are usually available on the location page for each workshop. More information will be sent upon confirmation of registration.
Waiting List If a workshop is full we will place you on the waiting list. There is no charge to be on the waiting list. If space becomes available, we contact the first person on the list. You then have 24 hours to register before we move on to the next person.
Transfers If you choose to transfer your space to someone in your company or family, a $100 administration fee is charged.
We recognize that cancellations are sometimes necessary. For cancellations made more than 30 days prior to the start of your course, 50% of your tuition will be refunded. Cancellations made within 30 days prior to the start of your course result in forfeiture of your tuition.
If you are unable to complete your course due to illness or natural disaster, please contact the administration office.
If SEI Cancels a Workshop Rarely, SEI must cancel a workshop due to low enrollment, instructor illness or other unforeseen circumstances. We will notify you if a workshop for which you have registered has been cancelled. You may then enroll in another workshop (based on availability) or receive a full refund of tuition. Notification of cancellation will normally occur one month prior to the beginning of the workshop; in rare cases, however, it may be less. SEI is not responsible for losses incurred on housing, travel or other arrangements.
Financial Assistance SEI has a limited number of partial tuition scholarships available for international and low-income participants. We also offer a work/trade program for people taking 8 weeks or more of workshops
Placement Assistance: SEI does not provide job placement upon completion of training. However, alumni/students are given access to the SEI Online Alumni and Career Center which provides networking connections for current SEI students and Alumni as well as opportunities to explore the career opportunities and professional paths within the Renewable Energy industry. This online resource is open to everyone for exploring links and posted materials to help you in your career exploration. The networking tools and premium services are available only to our Alumni and registered students.
Transfer of Credit: SEI does not guarantee the transferability of its credits to any other institution unless there is a written agreement with another institution. Students can receive college credit towards a Certificate in Renewable Energy (CERET) for successful completion of qualifying online workshops through the Madison Area Technical College.
Attendance Policy: For online courses, all graded activities must be fully completed (blank submissions do not count) with a cumulative final score of 70% or better to successfully pass the course and receive a Record of Completion. For in-person workshops, students must attend all scheduled sessions from start to finish to successfully pass the course and receive a Record of Completion. Certificate Program students must also pass a corresponding online exam with 70% or better for in-person (non-Lab) workshops.
Progress Policy: There is no testing for in person workshops as passing is based on attendance. For online courses, all graded activities must be fully completed (blank submissions do not count) with a cumulative final score of 70% or better to successfully pass the course and receive a Record of Completion.
Skipping Prerequisite Course: SEI's PV 101 course is exceptionally comprehensive. Should our participants elect to skip PV 101, or have taken a foundation class at a different institution, they may not have been exposed to the existing knowledge that is assumed in SEI's upper-level courses. This may require additional time commitments outside of their SEI course in order to become familiar with the learning objectives covered in SEI's PV 101 course. The content from PV 101 will not be reviewed if a participant decides to bypass PV 101 and move to a more advanced course. Should our participants take an upper-level course without having taken PV 101 with SEI, and are then unable to complete the more advanced course due to the material being too demanding, they do not qualify for a refund or free transfer to another course. PV 101 is equivalent to SEI’s former PV D&I, GT PV, or UIPV.
Grievance Procedure: Students should discuss any disagreement with the instructor. If unable to come to a mutually acceptable conclusion, student should discuss issue with SEI's Director of Online and Educational Services, Chris Turek at firstname.lastname@example.org. Final decision may be appealed to SEI's Executive Director, Kathy Swartz at email@example.com.
SEI is a membership based training organization that offers training to it's members. Your registration for a tuition based course includes a one year Basic Membership in SEI's Friends and Alumni Association. As part of your membership, SEI's monthly e-newsletter will be emailed to you if you have not already subscribed. You can also use the SEI Alumni and Friends Association Logo on your personal website, blog, social media, or your business marketing materials.
