Although the concept of AC coupling has been maturing over the last ten years or so, there are still many questions that surround this unique model of grid tied battery backup and stand-alone systems. This webinar will explore the basics behind AC coupling by explaining what it is, how it is accomplished, the advantages of using this concept and when it makes sense to use such a topology. System sizing rules of thumb are discussed to ensure a properly sized system and one that will not suffer a deep discharge under normal operating conditions. Load shedding and generator considerations round out the topics for this informative webinar.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: Greg Smith has been a technical training specialist for the SMA Solar Academy since May 2008. He has 20 years of technical training experience specializing in curriculum development. Greg travels extensively in the United States and Canada teaching customers about SMA products, electrical code compliance and installation best practices. Greg, who holds a master’s degree in human resources administration from Central Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree in corporate training, spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy as a submarine sonar technician and master training specialist prior to his career at SMA.
