Pittsboro is a quaint town that has a lot to offer. Workshop participants may want to take advantage of the Weekly Farmers’ Market that happens each Thursday from 3:30-6:30 pm at the Chatham County Fairgrounds. Arrive early to the PV workshop and go on a train ride of the valley on the New Hope Valley Train on October 5th, or take part in the Annual Goldston Old Fashion Day on October 11th. Or take advantage of the weekend and indulge yourself with the Ultimate Wine Experience at the award-winning Fearrington House Country Inn. For more information, see their website.

Class Details: Class will run from approximately 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day of class. Please plan to arrive at the classroom no later than 8:45 on the first day so that the instructors can check you into the class. Lunch will be from approximately 12:00-1:00 pm each day, in addition to a short morning and afternoon break.

The Grid-Tied PV workshop will have four days of classroom lecture and one day of tours and hands-on, mock-installation labs.
The Biodiesel workshop will have a combination of lectures, hands-on labs, guest speakers, and tours.

 

Transportation and Travel:

Closest Airports:
Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is 25 miles from the classroom.

Bus Stations: There is a Greyhound Station at 820 W Morgan Street, Durham, NC, which is approximately 25 miles from the classroom.
 
Train Stations: There is also an Amtrak Station at 400 W Chapel Hill Street, Durham, NC, which is approximately 25 miles from the classroom.


Nearby Lodging: Pittsboro and nearby surrounding towns offer a wide range of lodging options, including bed and breakfasts, inns, hotels, and camping. Please see the Pittsboro Convention and Visitor’s Bureau website for more information about lodging options.

The closest lodging option is Rosemary’s Bed and Breakfast, which is less than one mile from the classroom.

Food: There is a good selection of local restaurants within five minutes of the college. Check out Chatham Marketplace, Pittsboro's cooperatively owned grocery store and deli. The General Store Café, located at the town circle on Hwy 64W, is a popular choice as well. Elizabeth's Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant are just north of town on 15/501. Further exploration can lead you to Subway, the Pitt Stop Café, and San Felipe's Mexican restaurant. For a list of restaurants in the immediate area, please click here.

You are also welcome to bring your own lunch to eat at the college.
