SEI Team Members attended a fantastic event in Carbondale, Colorado this month where Grid Alternatives installed a rooftop PV system for a local family that will greatly offset their electrical utility costs.
After intensive technical training, many SEI Alumni go on to volunteer with Grid Alternatives to help integrate solar PV systems for families and communities in need across the country.
One notable SEI Alumni that participated in this event was Courtney Boyd, who is now the SolarCorps Volunteer and Training Fellow for Grid Alternatives.
Participating in the work-trade program and going through the technical training program at SEI gave Courtney a knowledge and love of renewables. She believes strongly in the life enhancing value of a good home as a basic human right, and is so happy to be practicing this as a part of the GRID Alternatives team.
Check out the cool doodle blog on the Grid Alternatives website documenting this great accomplishment in the home town of SEI's Carbondale, Colorado office location. Read their blog…

The Madison Area Technical College (MATC) / SEI Advanced Solar Electric Academy was a huge success last week! Students completed a packed week of solar PV battery-based hands-on training as well as advanced operations and maintenance troubleshooting.
"For educators, the process of instructional delivery is excellent: small group instruction, problem solving, questioning method; SEI sets the STANDARD".
Quote from an Advanced Solar Electric Academy Student
After the week of training was complete, Academy student Mark Lundy and his wife Dana enjoyed an epic horseback ride up Sunlight Mountain Resort in Glenwood Springs. CO – just down the road from SEI's Carbondale Office. Epic solar training and epic extracurricular activities at SEI!

SEI Alumni Highlight: Scott Oman

Scott Oman’s fascination with renewable energy began during a childhood tour of Hoover Dam with his father and was further stoked by the concepts of conservation and environmental stewardship instilled in him as a Boy Scout.
After having worked in Earth Sciences research up until Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005 Scott turned tragedy into opportunity and decided it was time to pursue his dream of working with renewables.
Scott found Solar Energy International (SEI) and attended the PV Intro course in Austin, TX and later spent a month taking the Advanced PV, Successful Solar Business, Industry Week, and Wind workshops in Colorado.
“When looking for places to get my solar education SEI seemed a clear leader and is widely respected by professionals in the industry. It was an easy choice and I have never for a moment been disappointed in my choice”.
After returning to New Orleans, Scott became active in the policy field by helping to craft the rules under which the newly passed Louisiana solar tax credit would be administered. Scott’s company, South Coast Solar, has grown to be an industry leader that performs work across the globe. He has never stopped learning.
