SEI Alumni Highlight: Michael Mazotti
Peace Corps Volunteer

My name is Michael Mazotti and I am currently a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in Perú. I took classes at SEI in 2011 and received an International and Developing World Applications Certificate through SEI's Solar Professionals Certificate Program.
Just a quick example of how SEI gave me the confidence to step up: During my first installation, I was working with a private contractor at the Historical Sanctuary. The park guards and another organization (Eco Tourismo) wanted to install a solar pump. I was new, hardly spoke Spanish, and my opinion did not matter much to them.
I kept in my place until I saw the private contractor wiring the panels wrong. I stepped up with little spanish and explained he is going to get the wrong desired output. He was confident though and dismissed my voice, so I told him to finish the wiring and then I will verify with my multimeter. To the shock of everybody, I was right.
Since then, the park guards at the Historical Sanctuary and Eco Tourismo called me first to see if I could help them with an installation. I just wanted you guys to know how far your influence reaches as well as the lives and projects your teachings help. Thanks for the great education.

Solar Energy International (SEI) Participates in 2017 NEC Meeting to Discuss Code Changes Effecting Solar PV Industry

That's right, the deadline to submit proposals for the 2017 National Electrical Code is rapidly approaching. As of this writing, around a quarter of the states have adopted the 2014 NEC; the majority are still on 2011 – though that number is continually shrinking – along with a few lingerers stuck on 2008.
Regardless of what Code is enforced in your AHJ, the PV industry is heavily involved in making sure that refinements and additions in the next Code improve clarity, address new system equipment and architectures, and enhance the safety of PV systems – all hopefully without impacting cost negatively! No short order indeed.
