SEI Spanish Hands-on Lab HUGE Success

View Photo Gallery >>
SEI recently completed a successful FV201L hands-on workshop specifically for Spanish speakers at our training facility in Paonia, Colorado. Our second 201L Spanish lab training at SEI was a great success. Click here for more info about SEIs Programa Hispano >>
We are very grateful to the instructors and students who worked throughout the week with a positive and strong spirit. We had an excellent group of students from 7 different countries, which included successful business owners, recent university graduates, professional engineers, and those passionate about the solar industry seeking a career change. The graduates of the workshop are now part of over 400 Spanish speakers who took trainings with SEIs Spanish Program in 2015.
SEI Alumni Highlight: Elisabeth Kaplan
Elisabeth Kaplan came to SEI’s women’s lab week to add solar expertise to her cultural knowledge and practical experience living with a solar system at home to take on the problem of the lack of electricity in her homeland of Haiti.
She has been assisting in northern Haiti since 2008 to try to improve the availability of health services where access to electricity is often a big barrier. Professionally trained solar installation services has not been available in that part of the country. There are over 1 million people living in this region.
She is leading a social business to make professional and reliable installation available and include people living there in the project to bring a new economic opportunity where they are otherwise scarce. Ayiti Sole’ has so far electrified 5 health facilities with offgrid systems in the region and has a growing amount of interest from the community that has been in a continual blackout.
SEI Welcomes New Team Members

As administrative assistant to our executive director and workshop coordinator, Faye is thrilled to be part of such an effective team working towards a more sustainable future for the planet. When shes not in the office Faye is usually enjoying the beauty of the North Fork Valley, creating kitchen alchemy or snuggling with her cat.

Scott Martin
Online Course Manager
With a background in electronics and IT consulting, Scott began studying renewable energy technology in 2008. Soon after, he discovered SEI and took his first few Solar PV courses and was hooked. Quickly realizing that he was living in one of the most solar friendly states in the U.S. (Massachusetts), Scott made the transition into the industry taking a job as a PV Project Manager and Technical Sales Person for a local installer. During his career, Scott has been involved with the design and sales of numerous residential and small commercial solar PV systems, and has earned NABCEP Certification as a PV Technical Sales Professional. While continuing to work in the field as an independent consultant, Scott has come full circle and is now the Online Course Manager and an Instructor at SEI.

Monique Turek
Student Services Counselor
Moniques passion for helping others and belief in renewable energy makes her right at home at SEI. Watching her son’s eyes light up with excitement while he ran along side the installation crew performing a solar PV installation on her own home, she knew solar energy is the future. Her formal education includes a Master’s degree in Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. As an academic and career counselor serving community college students, she has dedicated over 10 years of her professional life to helping people realize their academic, career, and personal aspirations. In her personal life she enjoys spending time with her husband and little boy Ethan exploring and going on adventures.

SEI Kicks Off Another Session of Solar Ready Vets Training at Ft. Carson – Colorado

Congratulations to the 25 transitioning soldiers and vets who began SEI’s Solar Ready Vets at Ft. Carson earlier this month. This is an intensive 5 week training program sponsored by the Department of Energy. Though this photo was shot in the classroom, over 50% of the class is hands-on. The class is being taught by Brian Mehalic and Tom Honey, who is a Navy vet. Combined, Brian and Tom have over 35 years of solar experience.
If you’re looking to hire, let us know as this is an incredible group of students!

Do YOU Have What it Takes?
SEI’s Solar Professionals Certificate Program (SPCP) is our most rigorous training program where you will have the opportunity to complete a multi-course track leading towards completing a program of study with SEI.
or call SEI Student Services at: (970) 527-7657 x1
As the solar industry becomes more and more competitive, SEI’s full training program will help you stand apart from the growing number of people who have taken only the bare minimum to sit for NABCEP Certification or who have not received any formal training at all.
If you are considering completing a path of training through SPCP in 2015, you will want to apply for admission and scheduling of your prerequisite training as soon as possible in order to complete the program in a timely manner this year.
Program completion is still possible if you start later in the training year, but becomes more and more difficult from a scheduling standpoint due to our full courses. Contact SEI Student Services today to speak to a SPCP advisor or complete the online application today.

SEI travels to Egypt to provide technical training on December 6th at the Solar-Tec Conference!
SEI’s technical seminar will deliver an overview of photovoltaic solar electric system types and design considerations. This seminar will focus on which components are required for various system designs and the role each component plays. The intent is to assist engineers, technicians and other interested observers in the understanding of how to design and specify systems that will best fulfill a projects applications and load demands. The presented material will also cover technical specifications of solar equipment to facilitate understanding of the capabilities, limitations and principles of system design.
