Ever the nature lover and outdoor enthusiast, Samira Smith dove into the renewable energy field to follow her passion for protecting habitats, ecosystems, and precious natural resources.

After completing her Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering at University of Colorado Boulder in 2014, she began her career in Data Acquisition and performance monitoring with a company based in Boulder. A year long sabbatical led her back to her hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida, where she discovered an opportunity to become a residential PV design engineer in 2017. With this position she spent her days designing residential grid direct PV and multi-mode battery based PV systems in central FL. She especially enjoyed days in the field gaining hands on experience with site surveys, install and commissioning, and O&M and troubleshooting. Her recent career move to corporate has extended her reach outside of the state of Florida to include all of continental US. Looking towards the future, her focus is on grid direct battery based systems, and she is looking forward to delving more into the world of off grid battery based design. She anticipates completing her NABCEP PVIP certification in 2021, and will continue working towards becoming a licensed professional engineer.

Outside of work, Samira enjoys a wide variety of outdoor and cultural activities, such as camping, paddleboarding, biking, gardening, dancing, Krav Maga, and playing music.
