Saַúl González Mendoza was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where he obtained his B.S. Mechanical Engineering degree (University of Puerto Rico), followed by a M.S. Manufacturing Systems Engineering degree at Stanford University (Palo Alto, CA). After 19 years in the manufacturing industry of medical devices and biopharmaceuticals, and shortly after Hurricane María devastated the island, Saúl switched careers to solar, and turned to Solar Energy International for his preparation. Saul completed four (4) of SEI’s professional certifications, obtained his NABCEP PV Associate credential, and became a licensed electrician journeyman. Seeing the need for energy security is his island, Saúl founded GenEra, L3C (low-profit limited liability company) in 2020, a for-profit company with a social purpose. In addition to serving residential and commercial customers, Saul collaborates with community projects where he provides technical assistance, installation support, seeks donations, or provides solar equipment at cost, to achieve energy security and sustained operation. Saul has also served on a voluntary basis in the board of directors of a local trade association that gathers solar companies, where he engages in aspects of professional and community education, and public policy.
