A Special Message from SEI’s Solar Elves and Special Request from the North Pole!
 Not to be confused with the North Pole variant of Santa’s Little Helper Elves, our merry band of SEI Solar Elves are 100% focused on our mission.
If you didn’t know, our mission is to provide industry-leading technical training and expertise in renewable energy to empower people, communities, and businesses worldwide.
With that said, the North Pole Elves and the SEI Solar Elves have a shared focus of ensuring a sustainable future for the planet. Their boss, Santa Claus, recently reached out to us and expressed his concern about how warm it is getting up there at his workshop and all over the planet.
In his message to SEI, good ol’ St. Nick asked if he could leverage SEI’s 25 years of experience to make sure the world increases clean energy adoption in the coming year.
He went on to commend our global network of 50,000+ students and alumni for their hard work and asked for their help as well to ensure his North Pole headquarters doesn’t melt away.
We of course said, YES – WE CAN HELP YOU SANTA! BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP TOO!

SEI Welcomes Pía Day as New Marketing Assistant for SEI’s Programa Hispano
 We welcome Pía Day to the team as the Marketing and Communication Assistant for the Spanish Program! With a degree in advertising and a background in social responsibility and innovation, she will help disseminate the mission of SEI across Latin America and help increase the awareness of the Spanish Program within the Hispanic community.
Through her participation with various nonprofits, Pía learned that giving just a bit of our time can make a difference in other people’s lives. She decided then to focus her career toward organizations that are helping to leave this world better than they found it. Pía truly believes that a powerful message can motivate and empower people to improve the standard of living in their communities through renewable energy; developing a more sustainable world, improving education, health and security conditions and creating new job opportunities.
Pia lives in Salta, Argentina with her husband Joaquin. Their home is far from the city as they enjoy being surrounded by nature. On her free time she likes to write, take jazz dance classes and go swimming.

PV101: Solar Electric Design and Installation (Grid-Direct)
PV101 is your gateway to a career in the solar industry. It all starts with the fundamentals, and a solid understanding of various components, system architectures, and applications for PV systems. Other topics include site analysis, system sizing, array configuration, and performance estimation; electrical design characteristics such as wiring, overcurrent protection, and grounding; a detailed look at module and inverter specifications and characteristics; mounting methods for various roof structures and groundmounts; and an introduction to safely and effectively commissioning grid-direct PV systems. This course focuses on grid-direct PV systems, the largest and fastest growing segment of the PV industry, but covers material critical to understanding all types of PV systems. These core concepts are expanded on in SEI’s upper level PV courses, which focus more specifically on particular system types, applications and design methodologies.

Her Solar Journey: The Sky’s the Limit
Shoot for the moon, and if you miss you’ll likely land on the sun. Although this variation of the saying is not typical, in the case of Solar Energy International (SEI) Instructor Kelly Larson, this version is more accurate in describing her journey into solar. As the industry grows so rapidly, stories like Kelly’s exemplify that there is no single path into solar, there are many opportunities available.

SEI Gets HUGE CertainTeed Donation

Christmas came early to SEI! CertainTeed donated $87,000 worth of equipment to SEI this month, including 4kW of their Apollo II Solar Shingles! CertainTeed’s Solar Services Manger and NABCEP Certified Installer Kate Collardson, traveled to SEI to supervise the install of this BIPV system on SEI’s new equipment shed! Kate has ten years of experience in solar and provides training on the BIPV technology to contractors utilizing CertainTeed’s products, and we were grateful to have her on hand for the install!
Kris Sutton, Director of Operations for SEI said of the install “Solar Energy International utilizes a wide array PV systems at our Paonia, CO campus as a part of our technical training program and we’re really pleased to have added the CertainTeed Apollo II Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) array to the mix. The array is prominently placed in our training facility so students attending hands-on training at SEI can experience this system. Thanks to CertainTeed for their generous donation which allows us to showcase another promising solar application to the thousands of students that pass through our campus.”
