AES, a global energy company accelerating the future of energy and a leading developer of utility-scale solar generation, recently partnered with Solar Energy International (SEI), a leading solar training educational non-profit, to provide solar workforce development services in Utah.

SEI’s training program prepares people for a career in the clean energy sector with a focus on solar photovoltaic (electrical) technologies. With over 30 years of non-profit  educational services, the AES-sponsored scholarship focuses on helping expand Utah’s clean energy economy to include a highly skilled workforce to install and maintain solar powered energy sources for a more sustainable future of the Beehive State.

“This partnership between AES and SEI is exciting as it highlights our commitment to a well-trained clean energy workforce in Utah,” said Chris Turek, SEI Director of Marketing and Communications. “With close to 7,000 solar industry related jobs in Utah and one of the strongest solar resources in the country, the growth potential for careers in this sector is huge.”

The new scholarship fund has been established for 20 Utah residents to enroll in SEI’s North America Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Associates online training package, which includes PVOL101 and PVOL203 classes along with the NABCEP PV Associates test. The partnership also provides SEI consulting services to help local colleges and universities develop or upgrade their solar workforce training programs.

Turek went on to add, “As of 2022, Utah gets over 10% of their electricity from solar and that percentage is growing. We look forward to connecting these 20 scholarship recipients to quality training that will lead to a successful career in the Utah Solar Industry.”

In further support of solar workforce development services in Utah and beyond, on July 27th, SEI will be offering a free webinar and virtual discussion about career opportunities in the renewable energy industry, featuring professionals discussing the day-to-day routine in renewables, available training programs, and an industry outlook. Webinar registration can be found here.
