SEI’s Programa Hispano Kicks Off Series of Six Solar PV Training Events in Chile
Two weeks ago, SEI began a PV training program in Chile aimed at growing a local solar workforce in one of the fastest growing solar electric markets in Latin America. This first workshop in a series of six total saw 23 Chilean students graduate from SEI’s 101 Utility course. The 9-day course covered classroom and hand-on installation activities, plus a tour of First Solar’s 141 megawatt (MW) alternating current (AC) Luz del Norte Solar Project, the largest in Latin America.
Many thanks to our instructors Brad Burkhartzmeyer, Chris Brooks, and Mike Sullivan as well as our workshop coordinators and Spanish Program team Daniel Gonzalez and Lilly Justman. SEI is honored to be partnering with the Chilean Government to provide industry-leading solar technical training.
SEI´s technical training (both online and in-person at Paonia workshops) totally changed my perception about my real possibilities in the solar industry.
SEI gave me the opportunity to professionalize what, until then, was more of a hobby than a real possibility of career development. I am happy to say that I am now 100% involved in the solar industry through my personal entrepreneurship PROSOLAR (www.prosolar.cl) and even happier to say that we’ve been recently awarded a couple of Government projects to install a total of 250 kWp in the north of Chile!
The Paonia, Colorado training experience is one of the most enriching experiences I have been fortunate to live. The SEI training facility, the instructors, the town, the people, the friends we made during our stay, Revolution Brewing, etc… i just hope to come back some day!
I highly recommend everything about SEI! I LOVE YOU GUYS!
SEI Leadership Recognized at Clean Energy Education & Empowerment (C3E) Symposium
Congratulations to Kathy Swartz, SEI’s Executive Director, for receiving a special commendation at the 2015 Clean Energy Education & Empowerment (C3E) Symposium!
The goal of the Symposium wss to provide women in clean energy with a range of perspectives on clean energy challenges and opportunities. It also provided a forum for networking. It is the hope of C3E that the symposium helps to build a sustained national and international community of professionals dedicated to advancing the careers and goals of women in clean energy.
As many young military veterans returning to civilian life, I spent years searching for what I wanted to do with the rest of my life professionally speaking. I’ve done everything from working as a gigging musician nearly full time to delivering pizzas to a trained EMT, and then I found solar.
I began working in the solar industry, on utility scale projects, actually before I pursued formal training through SEI, but knew there was an absolute desire for more advanced and detailed training. I wanted to go to the cream of the crop training program and SEI was my obvious choice.
On Veterans Day of last year I received a phone call from one of SEIs Student Services Counselors while on a megawatt job site offering me a scholarship which meant the world. I began the online training course in January of 2015 and was absolutely fascinated and captivated by solar energy through the outstanding instruction given by extremely knowledgeable instructors through SEI’s Online Campus.
My on-the-job utility scale experience was absolutely a head start per say, but the SEI PV101 installation and design program connected so many dots for me as far as my true understanding of PV energy production.
I now work for a very reputable and growing solar company out of Pensacola, Florida and I absolutely believe this certificate helped me seal the deal on this new job in the residential and commercial industry, and I can’t count how many times during installations I revert to things taught in the class. Its been an invaluable tool in my evolution as a solar installer, and I actually can’t wait to begin other courses offered. Thank You Solar Energy International!
