Dear SEI Solar Family,

We must do better. As an organization we stand in solidarity with those fighting to end systemic racism and violence in America. We mourn George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the far too many others whose lives have been destroyed by racism.

Enough is enough. We can’t all be on the front lines of the protest, but each of us has the responsibility to show up where we are and to work toward change in our own sphere of influence. This is the work we must do to build our collective future.

As an organization, SEI must reflect the diversity of our students to ensure that our vision of a world powered by renewable energy truly is inclusive and equitable. SEI’s board, staff, and instructors are largely white. As an industry, People of Color make up less than 25% of the US solar workforce. We must do better to ensure that our industry is diverse at all levels.  In the coming days, weeks and months we will be doing the hard work to examine our organizational culture and to amplify new voices so we can be better partners and advocates for this vision.

We must do better and we can.

In solidarity,

Kathy Swartz, SEI Executive Director, on behalf of the SEI family
