(October 14th 1-2pm MT) NFPA 855 is a new (2020) standard on the installation of stationary energy storage systems (ESS) which are now being widely installed in residential, commercial and utility scale pv systems. Join us for an enlightening one-hour conversation with Brian O’Connor, Fire Protection Engineer at NFPA, and learn about why the new standard was created, some actual ESS fire incidents, and how this standard will affect the design and financials of your ESS installations.

Brian O’Connor
P.E., Fire Protection Engineer @National Fire Protection Association
Brian is a Fire Protection Engineer at the National Fire Protection Association and President for the New England Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. Brian is a professional engineer registered in the states of Texas and Massachusetts. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rowan University and a Master’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland. At NFPA he focuses on topics such as aviation, portable extinguishers, water based fire protection, energy storage systems and health care facilities.

Mark Mrohs
PV Curriculum Developer @Solar Energy International

Mark Mrohs is a ‘Solar Pioneer’-started making space solar cells in 1974 and has continued to work in solar pv his entire career. He has been the Manager or Director of Training for ARCO Solar, Siemens Solar, Astropower, GE Solar, Sunpower, SunEdison… and now consults with SEI. He has a degree in Physics and in Education with a focus on Instructional Design. He has delivered solar technical training in over 20 countries, including running a 3-year World Bank funded solar technician training program in India. He sits on the NABCEP Exam Review Committee, yes the folks that come up with the questions for the PV Professional Exam.
