Karo found her passion for renewables and solar energy early in life, living with empathy and compassion for life, nature, and preservation. She’s from Costa Rica and began working in random pioneering solar projects there in 2009, in parallel to attaining a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Since, Karo has worn many hats in the PV industry doing tech consulting for PV system design, inspection, commissioning, troubleshooting, and all those fun things. She has been a devoted instructor for SEI since 2013, and was a curriculum developer for SEI from 2013 to 2021. In 2020 she was awarded the Walt Ratterman Award for her volunteering efforts with Water Mission and Engineers Without Borders. In 2014 Karo attained certification as a NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) 041115-010931, and in 2021 she was accepted as a National Electrical CodeĀ® CMP-13 Principal Voting Member. She’s humbled by the opportunity to represent installers, SEI alumni, and tradespeople in the NEC writing process.
