SEI’s New Online CE Course - 2014 National Electrical Code® and PV Systems

Posted by: chris on January 30, 2014
It’s January, and that means the rollout of the new 53rd edition of the National Electrical Code® is in full swing. The simple fact of the matter is that in a rapidly growing industry like PV, best practices and products change quickly, and the new requirements and recommendations in the 2014 NEC® will drive them.  So whether you’re an installer, designer, manufacturer, engineer, or building official, it’s critical to stay ahead of the game.

SEI is and will continue to work hard to address changes curriculum-wide, and on
February 7th opens access to a three-hour ...

Happy Winter Solstice from SEI

Posted by: chris on December 18, 2013
Winter has officially arrived in Paonia, Colorado. Our solar PV training campus is covered with a thick, fluffy blanket of snow. Well except for our PV systems which have been faithfully kept clean so that production is not sacrificed!

We often get asked the question, "So what do you do in the winter? Does SEI just shut down?" December is our busiest planning month of the year. Our PV Team is in the planning process for 2014 NEC updates, additions to our online and in-person classes to improve the learning experience, and new courses to develop. Joe Villacci and Kris ...

A Gift Earned

Posted by: matthew@solarenergy.org on November 18, 2013

The 2013 APSA training period has ended, and a new family has been formed. Saturday the final bus left the Earth University to send off the last of the APSA Alumni back to their home countries where they will begin or in some cases continue to carry the torch towards a renewable energy future for the Americas. On behalf of all the instructors who participated in APSA ’13 and everyone at SEI I would like to say that this past year has been a spectacular journey, one which could not have culminated any better than it has these past two weeks.

There are now 50 people ...

Posted by: chris on October 31, 2013
Kathy Swartz, SEI Executive Director
(PS: I can’t help but share this group photo with SEI’s mascot—Huck the St. Bernard. He not only gets a lot of love from SEI students but enjoys cleaning up after potlucks)

October! Does anyone else feel that October just flew by?? October has been a wonderful (and very busy) month here at SEI.

We finished the last of our intensive, hands-on workshops at our training facility in Paonia, Colorado. This summer, we’ve had 18 workshops, people from over 30 countries and almost all 50 states. Another incredible summer, ...

Mark Carsten - SEI Alumni Highlight

Posted by: chris on September 30, 2013
The "Eco-Experience" was voted " Best Attraction" at the Minnesota State Fair this year. MRES, the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society had solar electric and thermal exhibits. Other exhibits included wind power, electric vehicles, energy efficient lighting and appliances, green lifestyle and materials and personal and regional water management.
As an MRES Volunteer, I spent 4 hours on different 5 days advocating for solar. People came wondering if solar was finally viable economically and technically? Many had a strong desire to live with solar power and had ...

It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This

Posted by: chris on September 30, 2013
Kathy Swartz, Executive DirectorAfter leaving SEI's potluck a little over a week ago for our PV201L, our grid-tied lab week, I took some time to reflect.  What a night!

Between 32 students, their spouses and family, the instructors, staff, a board member, and friends of SEI, there were over 50 people. You should have seen the spread of food that people brought--heaping plates of local goodness, a lot of meat, growlers from the Revolution Brewery. We watched the Harvest Moon rise over the mountains. A student played his guitar and Sandy from our business office sang.
