SEI Leads Industry Training for
Middle East Solar PV Conferences

Solar Energy International (SEI) was selected as the training provider for three international conferences in the Middle East region. There was standing room only at SEI’s workshops at Intersolar Middle East recently in Dubai! SEI Instructors Kris Sutton and Rebekah Hren led three workshops on topics ranging from PV Installation Best Practices to Tools and Techniques for commissioning and maintenance of PV Systems.
SEI was been invited by the conference organizers from the respective events to execute trainings on topics ranging from introductions to grid-tied and battery based systems to advanced PV system operation and maintenance workshops.
SEI will lead trainings at the following the conferences in 2016: Intersolar Middle East in September 19th-21st in Dubai, the Dubai Solar Show from October 4th-6th, and Solar-Tec Egypt held in Cairo from December 4th-6th. SEI will also be an exhibitor at these conferences and SEI alumni and friends are encouraged to visit the booth and register for the trainings if they are in the region.

These custom workshops are developed utilizing SEI’s peer-reviewed curriculum. The content is developed by our in-house PV Curriculum team of solar professionals. The organization has been providing renewable energy training for the past 25 years and has trained over 45,000 people from around the world. Since their founding in 1991, they have trained over 1,000 people from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with an increasing presence at conferences and and contract trainings in the area.

SEI Alumni Highlight: Alex Jahp
Alex Jahp returned to Solar Energy International (SEI) this month after beginning his solar installation training at SEI last fall. Alex’s solar career began after he was inspired by the impact of PV in the developing world.
While travelling through areas of rural Africa, Alex was struck by just how big of a difference small PV systems could make in these communities, many of which have no utility grid. “I was mesmerized by the concept of how this could change the world. In areas like this, they might never build a grid. Solar is really changing these people’s lives; they can read books to their kids at night, they can prepare food at night, they can do all sorts of different things and I thought that was incredible.”

SEI Launches New On Demand Online Course: CE519: Off-grid System Considerations
SEI is proud to announce the launch of another SEI Continuing Education course in our on-demand CE series: CE519: Off-grid System Considerations!
There are many things to consider when sizing and designing an off-grid PV system. In this continuing education course we’ll take a high level overview that will primarily focus on DC coupled off-grid systems. We’ll discuss the different components in an off-grid system. Then we’ll look at the different design parameters that are used when sizing an off-grid system. Sizing examples will be used for each component using the design parameters for that component. We’ll wrap things up with an overview of the maintenance required to keep an off-grid system running properly. Qualifies for NABCEP CE Hours: 2 JTA/Other.

SEI Alumni Highlight: Jessica Wagner
Bringing New Energy to a Historic Organization

As an applicant in SEI Solar Professionals Certificate Program, Jessica Wagner has been at SEI’s Training Facility in Paonia, Colorado for 6 weeks and she has impressed everyone with her passion and journey to get here. From the initial classes in Grid-Direct Design and Installation to the Advanced Multi-Mode Systems and energy storage technology, Jess has been engaged and diligent in her coursework and future career in the solar industry.
Her interest in solar energy began early, intrigued by the PV modules atop her grandmother’s home, and leading to a third grade paper passionately declaring her intent to become an electrical engineer so she could install solar when she grew up. In fact, Jess did begin school to become an electrical engineer but there were some twists and turns in her journey to become a solar installer.

SEI Launches SolarReadyColorado.org Driving Colorado Solar Training Forward
Through a new initiative titled Solar Ready Colorado, SEI is recruiting Colorado based students from many different sectors including coal miners, people working in the oil and gas extraction sectors, electricians and other construction trades professionals, and military veterans.
The new SolarReadyColorado.org website leverages partnerships created by this inititive to highlight jobs in Colorado – career resources – and highlight the training needed to be successful in the industry.

Solar Ready Colorado is a statewide effort through Solar Energy International (SEI) and industry partners to expand the activities of outreach, recruiting, and training to the rapidly growing Colorado solar industry and jobs market. Through industry partnerships and support from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, the program provides a dedicated outreach and recruitment effort as well as technical training through Solar Energy International’s (SEI) long running, non-profit 501(c)(3) technical training program to those interested in entering the Colorado solar industry.
